From Rick, Aug.28, 2005

Hi Everyone this is Rick.I will never be able to express to you my graditure and Love for all of your support and especially your prays. You all have been beyond my wildest imagination. I do not know how to express my love to each and everyone of you. One thing I do want you to do is to understand I do not give a dam about these stats the Dr's are talking about. I have already met a number of people that have beat the odds by keeping a positive attitude and believe you me I have not met any one that has had anything like the support I have had from all of you so I know that with your love and prayers together we will beat this cancer. If anyone ever wonders about the Love and Caring in and outside of AA just have them read these notes to Sharon and me.I You all are wonderful and will never know how much hope you have given me. God Bless each and every one of you and your families.
Love to all of you. Rick

Comment Hi Rick and Sharon, Just read your last blog and am so glad to hear all is going better. Rick, you keep that wonderful spirit of yours, it can only help. It sounds like you've had so many wonderful visits from family and friends. See how much everyone loves you, including us, of course. That means you too Sharon. I tried playing golf once, didn't do too terribly bad, nothing to brag about. The only problem was the golf course was like a shooting gallery, 3 courses kind of intermingling. For a beginner, not such a good idea. One day I'll get back out there, Bob use to golf growing up with his brother and dad. We are heading tomorrow for Vegas for a few days and will get together tomorrow night with Curtis and Diana, can't wait. It's been 36 yrs, hope we'll recognize each other. I have another cousin in Henderson that we'll be seeing also. Will write more when we get back and in the mean time, you two take care and we send lots and lots of love with this message. Love, Jane & Bob

Comment 29 September 2005 Hey Buddy! How's it going? From the Blog it looks like you are getting back into the 'Pardon the Pun' Swing of things by going golfing. Driving, now that may be a little risque. All kidding aside, we here at the Mazer Family are really glad to see that all is going well. Keep the Faith and press on, just as you are. You are a Great Inspiration to us all! Have to get back to work for now, we'll keep in touch with you both. Our best to you and Sharon from us all here at the Mazer Family! 'God Bless !' David, Zaida, and Joanna Mazer

Comment Hi Rickk We may not know each other personally, but I know a lot about your guts, and the love a lot of people have for you. The comments on this site are beautiful! They tell me a lot about you and must be a real source of encouragement for you. I am a friend of James and Nadis Davis and have heard about you through them. I join all of your friends in their prayers for you, not only for your full recovery but for comfort, strength, hope, and freedom from pain in these present moments. September 6, 2005 Bob Maurice

Comment Hey there, Rick!! It is WONDERFUL to see you adding to the blog. You taught long ago that you never have to do anything alone when you get sober in AA. Once again, you are showing me by example that what you taught me is true. You hang in there - if anyone can likc this cancer it is you!

Comment Hi Rick, It's wonderful to read your email and hear your positive attitude. I KNOW you are right about winning this battle with cancer...especially when I keep reading all the support you are getting from friends and family all over the U.S and the rest of the world. Rick, you are in GOOD HANDS! Everybody that writes to you says they are praying for you and/or thanking you for how you've helped them! Rose wrote a song a couple of years ago that just fits this situation and your positive attitude. It goes something like this: "Here's my love I've given you, to bring you hope and courage, too; And here's my grace, I pour it down, to let you know that I'm around. Here's a faith that's from above; may you know that YOU ARE LOVED. So Fear Not!" Rick, that love and care you've given to others through the years at AA and at work really is coming back full force to you now and it blesses me to read about it!! And others, too. I've felt like we were back in Germany reading the comments from fellow ATF'ers Chris and Frank and so many friends from Bldg 1034 that I met at the ATF. (And Rick, after 20+ years in Germany, doesn't reading these notes from friends in Germany bring back memories knowing they're back there eating Schnitzels and Rumpsteaks at the Pfeffermuhle and Pfalzer Stuben and eating Chateaubriand at the Alt Landstuhl. (Man, I'm hungry.....) When you're ready to catch a hop back, hurry-up and give a holler and I'll join you. Yes, I can go next week! I hate to stop on a hungry thought. but it's a pleasant thought...In the meantime, please know that we are all praying and thinking about you and Sharon daily. Take Care, Dick Brandt

Comment I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way. What you have given to us can never be repaid. You gave us your time. You gave us your attention. You gave us your love and your example.,
Our thoughts and prayers are the very least we can give. You get our love just because.
Tim

Comment Hey Rick, I just wanted to tell you THANK YOU! You are probably one of the most important people in my life! My daddio, Joey In case you haven't figured it out yet. would not be the wonderful, loving person that he is today without having had you in his life. I owe you such gratitude for changing my life and my father's life and the life of my siblings and the life of my children for the better. Thank you for being sober and helping my father to become sober. I will never ever forget you and my family's prayers and love are with you. If you can beat alcoholism you can beat this thing. Sharon, hang in there. You have a lot of love and support too! All my love, Christina

Comment Hey, Tinkerbell! Like I promised, I'll be arriving at South J Street Street in a scant few weeks loaded down with "all things Red Sox" - setting up camp deep within Mariners' Territory! Heh-heh! Can't wait to see you again. Can you say, "I Love Johnny Damon"? Woo-hoo, keep up the good work, and eat your Corn Flakes. Love, Jane B.

Comment Dear Rick and Sharon, Much love to you from your Kansas City cousin. It is so good to hear how well you are doing and that you are managing the chemo like a champ. Your determination and positive energy will definitely work wonders. I know you are certainly receiving an abundance of positive vibes from Kansas City. You are always upper most in my thoughts and prayers Rick. I hope you can feel the hugs I am sending. Things have quieted down somewhat here since my 40th High School Class Reunion and then one week later Steve's and my 40th Wedding Anniversary Celebration. It took us a couple of weeks to get rested up and back to normal; but we are now raring to go again. Our grandkids are back in school or are just starting (3 of them started kindergarten this year); so there are already activities to attend. Steve and I can't make it to them all; but we try hard. Also, the sales of Entertainment Books, gift wrap, trash bags, etc. etc. have begun again. It is amazing how much stuff the schools, ball teams, scouts, etc. expect these kids to sell. :-) We are having a "thank-you" meal at our home for our kids and grandkids (all the ones living here in town) this coming Sunday. They drew to see who got to choose the various portions of the menu for the meal. Nora got to choose the main dish----and chose spaghetti. We have perfected a pretty mean sauce over the years. Kelly & Gary got to pick the side dishes; but chose only the usual Italian bread. Desserts fell to Brian & Elisa. They chose cheese cake pie and apple crisp. Since Kelly only chose bread, we let her pick a dessert also. She chose lemon meringue pie. So, the menu is now finalized at Spagetti w/meat sause, Italian Bread and three desserts. Would you believe that my family has a sweet tooth big time? Anyway, we are looking forward to cooking for the whole crew on Sunday. The rest of the Labor Day weekend appears to be pleasantly devoid of scheduled activity. At our age, that is music to our ears. Enough of my chatter. Keep up the great attitude and the strong resolve, Rick. You and Sharon just hold each other up and remember the power of laughter, smiles, prayer and LOVE. Hugs and love are on their way to you as we speak---from your Kansas City Cousin, Judi
