Wow! What a busy day we had. Out to Madigan to visit Rick's regular doctor who noticed some discrepancies in the medication and noted that he had a complete blood workup scheduled for tomorrow which I knew nothing about. A few phone calls to oncology got most of the confusion cleared up but it did keep us at the hospital longer than we expected. Rick was really feeling good so we took the hike from one building to another for lunch. His spirits were definitely up and his attitude is so positive. The folks who visit lift him building 1034. So from the hospital we went to his first physical therapy appointment. I am so happy with the fellow who will be helping him and the female trainer who wears a T-shirt with the words "BIG MEANY" printed on the back. She's pretty so he probably will do what she says...I just clapped my hands and thought "Thank you, God". She's just what he needs.

He and Jerry Pennington just talk for hours. It is such a blessing as he is interacting all the time and not sitting in his own mind.

Those of you who know of St. Jude, please ask him to intercede on our behalf for Rick's recovery. If you don't know about St. Jude you can check him out on the web at www.stjudeleague.org

He is now up for shopping for some new clothes as he has lost 40 pounds in the last month. The wanting to shop is a good sign. He hates his baggy blue jeans even when I tell him that's all the rage!!!

We are so blessed and grateful for all your love and support. Please keep the comments coming as he gains so much from your humor, your prayers for him, and just the sitting down talking with him kind of comments.

You fill me up with hope and gratitude. Thank you.
Love, Sharon

Comment Rick, Hey when you get around to asking the doctors about when you can play golf. You might want to pratice that rigorous honesty thing. As I have seen you on the course. A better thing to ask would be when are you allowed to drive a golf cart on the fairways, and walk through the woods carrying a club to hunt for one of your well stuck balls!!!! Love you Rick, hope to see you soon. I saw Robert P last weekend in SC. He had come up to hear me speak. I'm headed down to GA next weekend for a young people's conference. And then off to Germany 13-30 Oct for a visit my kids. It looks like I will be medically retired in a few months. With Love George W

Comment Rick and Sharon, Love you both terribly much! Jess and I are sober, happy, joyous and free. We just PCS'd up here to Fairbanks, Alaska from K-Town. Rick, you are gonna have to get well and come visit us next summer, There are a ton of great fishing holes and golf courses around here to keep you hopping! You are both in our prayers every day, and you can rest assured that God is listening... he sure didn't bring us this far to drop us on our @*^ ! A really cool passage from my church for you both: The light of God surrounds us The love of God enfolds us The power of God protects us The presence of God watches over us Wherever we are, God is! ... and all is well. Unity Church of Muskegon, MI.

Comment Okay, I think I'm must be getting old and loosing a grip on the technology curve. It took me until now to figure out to write a comment. I had serched around in the site several times but still couldn't get it. Is this a sign that technology is moving faster than my feeble mind can keep up with? Tammy Sharon, it was good to talk with you on the phone and hear your voice. Please keep in mind that we aren't THAT far away if you need extra help. Rick -- what is this using swearing on the blog site? Tell me how you REALLY feel? What I hear you saying is you're going to be bigger than this thing is..... counselor talk there! We're counting on you keeping to your word (even if they do include some profanities) and together, we'll all help you in the walk down this path. We're in there with you! Erik says that he'll put together a hiking plan for all us to do on the Pacific Crest Trail when you get through this. Losing 40 pounds you'll be sprinting ahead of all of us and leaving us in the dust. Keep up your wonderful attitudes. Love you both - Tammy Sharm and Erik

Comment Rick & Sharon, You probably don't remember me but I was one of the guys from Bldg 1024 that you helped welcome back through the doors in June 2003 when I realized the 'revolving door sobriety program' wasn't at all worth a hoot. Michael & Janet let me know what's going on with you since I've moved back to the states. I just wanted you to know how much your love and support meant to me just coming back! If it wasn't for guys like you, alot of us wouldn't have been able to 'hang with the program'...God really used you in my life, and I'll be grateful to you always. Love and Peace with you all. Rich

Comment I remember Johnny's therapist at Walter Reed. She wore a very small one piece in the pool....such motivation( could it be that that's part of PT training). He was back to walking in no time even after the doctors told him he' d never walk again. Miracles do happen! You and Rick are on the minds of the folks at KES! Hugs, Kathy
